Tonight I went to see Monsters University.
Mike and Sully came with me (more on what they are in a later blog)
As with all the recent Disney Pixar movies
it began with a Pixar short. This one was called the Blue Umbrella. It was a
cute short but I thought the theme was far too similar to the Paperman short
before the Wreck it Ralph movie.
Monsters University then was the story of
Mike and Sully before Monsters Inc. Mike goes off on a school tour to the Monsters
Inc Company and from there forms big dreams of working on the scare floor when
he grows up. Skip forward a few years and it’s time for Mike to go to college
we see the first day excitement as Mike meets some of the other students and
goes along to his first lecture. Everything goes well for Mike until an
argument with James Sullivan in class one day almost ends his dreams of
becoming a scarer as Mike and Sully get kicked out of the scare classes.
Eventually Mike teams up with the OK (the Oozma Kappa) Fraternity and together they compete in a
scaring competition in the college after Mike makes a bargain with the Dean of
the college. One final twist sees Mike and Sully expelled from college but all
is not lost the pair decide to go get a job together in the mail room of the
Monsters Inc company and in a short montage we see how working together Mike
and Sully are able to work their way up to their dream job.
The movie is Disney all over.
You have the poor little good guys who defeat the bad guys and a moral to the
whole story. The moral to this story be one of two things first that sometimes
it’s better to work in teams if that can be a moral but also and probably more
importantly that even if you fail keep trying because one day with a little
hard work you will succeed at your dreams. It might be a bit cheesy but not a
bad moral. Overall I enjoyed the movie. There were a few giggles here and there
but I would advise to stay until the end of the credits because there’s a short
clip there that ties in to the start that’s very funny. For a Disney fan it was
worth the watch I’m not so sure a non-Disney fan would it enjoy it all that
much.
Great review. Certainly looks like another Disney hit
